RAVES AND RAMBLINGS FROM THE ROAD

Hitting the road early Tuesday morning, not as early as we wanted though; NEVER as early as we wanted, we had plans for the next five days. After dozing off for a while we arrived at the south Alberta border crossing. The officer there put us on the spot somewhat when he asked where we were headed. The reply, ‘Kalispell’. In surprise he responded, ‘What in the world can you get in Kalispell that you can’t get in Calgary?’ My husband assured him it was only our destination for the day and loosely laid out our plans further down the road. As we began to drive we actually figured out that this small city across the border did indeed have quite a bit to offer us. Hobby Lobby for instance, beautiful scenery and last but not least Krispy Kreme doughnuts! When I spied the doughnut store I insisted we stop so I could pick up a few pre-dunked goodies. I ordered two but found I would have to return after five since that is when the baking would begin.
Later when I entered the store the young cashier brought me a box filled with a ‘hole’ dozen of the tasty treats! I was trying to explain this was not my order when along came the manager and told me to take my box and get out! The nerve! Again, in shock, I tried to explain it was not mine, I only ordered two pastries. Again he told me to take it and leave; as a last resort I asked for the bill so I could pay for them. Instead he responded in a stern voice, insisting I take the box and leave, ‘.....before I call security!’ Now I noticed the smirk on his face and I got the heck out of Dodge! Or Krispy Kreme or whatever! What a blessing! We shared them with family when we arrived back in BC. I did figure out why I love them unglazed; they taste just like my mom’s home made ones when I was a kid! That in and of itself is enough reason to cross the border; next time I will have a proper answer!
Besides all that we got a head start on our Christmas shopping, visited family and even re-united with a sweet cousin of mine that I had not seen in at least fifteen years. Today on the first leg of our return home we had a ferry ride, visited some artisan shops where incidentally, we viewed a broom maker at work and enjoyed perusing his wares. It was here that my husband suggested I might be interested in purchasing a new ‘vehicle’!
Further down the road we had a tour of a glass house, made entirely of glass embalming fluid bottles!
I know, right? I couldn’t help but wonder how many lives or rather, deaths, were represented there. Six hundred thousand bottles later and the owner had his retirement home!
And on that note I am about ready to retire for the night but one more day and we will arrive back at home and that always has a sweet ring to it! God is good and He has faithfully brought us this far and surprised us with many little blessings along the way. Because of the way He loves I am challenged to always look for the good in others and in my day!
It is this resolve that brings me the balance I need in my life; balance between work and fun, serious and silly, giving and receiving.
So tomorrow I will continue on my way to the party.
